I've been a Tim Tebow fan since shortly before Denver shocked the world by taking him in the first round. This despite never having seen him play in college, or really knowing anything about him except what was contained in media blurbs. I never really understood why until today, when dueling Tebow articles forced me to really think about it.

I'm a fan of several athletes specifically because they are (in my view) unfairly represented by the media. This applies to Tebow as much as another favorite of mine, Eli Manning. I think I always assumed that was the long and the short of why I'm a Tebow fan. But Tebow has barely played in the NFL, so it's not quite the same thing.

Tebow was also fantastic in college, winning two national championships. And while they are experts and I am not, I have trouble believing that "those skills won't translate to the NFL." Then again, I felt the same way about Reggie Bush, and it appears the experts were right there. Still, "give Tebow a chance" is a mantra I can get behind.

I admire Tebow's religious beliefs, because they seem genuine and as far as I know he doesn't try to convert anyone he meets or anything. And the fact that being religious will earn you opposition among certain crowds feeds into my first point.

But none of that is why I support Tim Tebow, though the last point isn't far from the mark. I support Tim Tebow because he lives his life the right way, doesn't take any shortcuts, and by all accounts is a genuine stand-up guy. And I want to believe that there is a reward for being a good person. It doesn't logically follow that living your life the right way would make you good at football, but nonetheless, there it is.

If Tebow turns out to be a superstar, it won't prove anything, nor will it if he turns out to be a bust. But it's nice to believe that maybe doing things the right way helped him get where he is today.
